It is written by Sophie Kinsella and it is part of her Shopaholic-series. I have read the whole series because it is very easy to read chick lit. These books are the best when you are tired and just want to unwind and not think too hard. They are also good when travelling because you can easily read page here and there when waiting in line. You will definitely read the Shopaholic books with a smile on your face because they are so silly.
Here's a list of the whole series:
-The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic (also titled Confessions of a Shopaholic)
-Shopaholic Abroad (also titled Shopaholic Takes Manhattan)
-Shopaholic Ties The Knot
-Shopaholic & Sister
-Shopaholic & Baby
-Mini Shopaholic
The books tell about the main character Becky (a Brittish girl) who has an obsession for shopping. In every books she gets herself into these ridiculous situations which in the end (of course) turn out for the good.
In this newest book Becky makes a promise to her husband that she won't buy anything for herself anymore (due to the bad economy) until she has worn all her clothes in her closet at least three times. But that doesn't stop her from shopping because she can always find things for her 2 year old daughter. For example; Becky finds this wonderful dress at the mall that she wants for herself but since she can't buy anything for herself, she buys the dress for her daughter to wear when she is twenty. And in the mean time Becky can wear it once and then store it for her daughter to wear when she grows up.

These books are full of silly logic that only girls would get, for example; "Some things are best left a blur. Births and Visa Bills" or "They should list shopping as a cardiovascular activity. My heart never beats as fast as it does when I see a reduced by 50% sign".
But they also make you feel good that at least you are not as bad with shopping as Becky is (and I know she is a made up character, but anyway).
I read the books in English but they have them translated in Finnish as well. So go pick up copy for yourself from the bookstore or the library. And don't bother with the movie called "Shopaholic". It is not anywhere near as good as the books, plus they changed so many details that it doesn't have the same feel to it anymore. Just stick to the books.
And to the last, fun fact about the first book (The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic). Becky actually writes in her CV that she can speak fluent Finnish. Well, as you can guess, Becky ends up in a situation where she is hired to a job where she would need to speak Finnish. You have to read book to find out how she gets her way out of that sticky situation.
