- ½ cup rasberries (fresh or frozen)
- handfull of lingonberries (fresh or frozen)
- ½ cup greek yogurt (non-flavored) or fromage frais (rahka in Finnish)
- skim milk as much as you like (I like my smoothies thick, so I only add little milk)
- honey or stevia for sweetness
Mix all ingredients in a blender or with a handheld mixer until smooth. Garnish with rasberries and enjoy!
I sometimes make the smoothie at night time and store it in a fridge overnight. Then I'll enjoy it in the morning or take it to work for a morning snack. It stays pretty fresh overnight and saves you time in the morning. That way you know you will have a healthy breakfast/snack already made and you don't end up eating something less healthy like donuts or sugary cereal.
Why is this smoothie good for you? Because rasberries are full of antioxidants and fibre. Raspberries are also a rich source of vitamin C, vitamins B 1-3, folic acid, magnesium, copper and iron. Same goes for lingonberries.
Bananas on the other hand are an excellent source of vitamin B6 and they contain moderate amounts of vitamin C, manganesium and potassium. Consumption of bananas may be associated with a reduced risk of colorectal cancer and in women, breast cancer.
Fromage frais and milk provide protein and calsium.
Note to the readers in US, fromage frais is an awesome product but I don't remember seeing it in the regular grocery stores in US. It is like thick yogurt but it has more protein than yogurt.
