Bake My Day / Filled Breadsticks

For a Friday night snack, I want to share an idea for filled breadsticks. I usually make these when we have something in our fridge that is expiring soon. I don't like to waste food by throwing it away. You can basically use anything for these. My favorite fillings are pepperoni and any cheese.

These breadsticks are also really handy if you have guests coming in couple hours and you don't know what to serve.

For the dough you can use any dough that you would use for pizza dough, rolls or bread. I usually make the dough like this:
- 2 cups (5dl) warm water
- 1 bag dry yeast (11g)
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tsp sugar
- flour (I didn't measure the flour because I just kept mixing in a little bit of flour each time, until I got a nice firm dough)

Then I let the dough rise for about an 45 minutes. After that I just need to decide what fillings I am going to use. I had some olives and marinated garlic on hand this time. I chopped them up a little bit.

Then I take a piece of dough that I roll and shape into a long rectangle. After that I place the fillings in the middle. Here are the olives...

And here's the garlic....

Then I just fold the sides in the middle and pinch them together. After that I usually roll the dough a little bit to make it smooth. You can also twist it.

Here are the unbaked breadsticks. This time I brushed them with melted butter.

I also sprinkled them with some finger salt and herbs.

Then I baked the sticks in a preheated oven (225C / 435F) for about 15 minutes or till golden brown. Here are the baked breadsticks. You can see the sticks that I twisted a little bit. They opened up from the end. But I think that looks pretty!

Here's a close up on the inside. Yummy!

You can also serve dips for these breadsticks. My favorite dips are: melted butter, olive oil with herbs and pepper, marinara sauce and cheese sauce.

Now, that's what I call a great snack for the Friday night munchies. :)

  2. Juu, nämä on tosi hyviä!! Pepperoni sopii myös täytteeksi hirmu hyvin, se on mun lemppari! Mä teen näitä aina, kun jääkaapissa on vanhaksi menevää pepperonia yms. Tai jos pizza-taikinaa jää yli. :)
