Like I told you before, I went to see a specialist for my back yesterday. My appointment was supposed to be at 4.20pm but because there was a computer problem, the whole schedule was over an hour late. Dang computers! The doctor apologized for it and I didn't really care because I know how it is with technology, it goes out once in a while.
The doctor was really nice and he is actually the official team doctor for KalPa. He said he has been treating KalPa players for 30 years now. That is a long time!
He decided to try a shot of anesthetia for my back. He said that it sometimes works for the hockey players. I hesitated for a second because I had a shot of cortisone couple years ago but that made things worse. But he talked me around because this time it was just anesthetic injection to ease the pain.
The shot itself wasn't that bad but I may have said one bad word (F***!!) in English even though I spoke Finnish with the doctor (*Oops*). The doctor was laughing that he was actually able to use the thinnest needle used for kids on my back because I have hardly any fat on my back. He said that usually he needs a thicker/longer needle for adults and of course that will hurt more.
I had some sharp pain on my back right after I left the doctor's office but right now it is ok. The doctor said that I shouldn't be alarmed if my whole right buttock feels numb. I said I really don't care if my butt is numb as long as the back is too and I can be pain-free for a little bit (*giggle*).
The doctor gave me also some new pain killers that he prescribes to the hockey players too. Of course we both hope I don't have to take a lot of them. The doctor and I were talking about how to handle pain and how to work with it. He was talking about the hockey players getting tackled and hurting their backs like I hurt mine from falling down.
I will also be going for another MRI to check that the rupture hasn't gotten worse. But that will take few weeks because I will go to the public healthcare for the MRI. My employer paid for this specialist visit but the they don't pay MRI's. I don't have the money to pay for it and I will gladly wait to use the city health care because it will be free then. Than God for socialized medical care!
Since I didn't get out of the doctor's till after 6pm, Scott and I treated ourselves for dinner at a restaurant. Scott came along with me to the doctor's because it wasn't supposed to take long (*laugh*). It was nice to go out for dinner together because we haven't done it for a while. We went for glögi and pizza at this Finnish chain restaurant called Rosso. I was only able to eat a one fourth of my yummy pepperoni-ham-mushroom pizza because I stuffed my face with salad for an appetizer. Oh well, I'll have pizza today again since I took the rest of the pizza with me.
This morning I'm just waiting for the anesthetic to start working. It works slow and I should start noticing the effects today or tomorrow. Other than that I need to make a list of people who I will send a Christmas cards to because without a list I end up forgetting people or sending two cards to the same person. Then I will go meet my friend Reetta for a quick second today. She is in town for few hours. I can't wait to see her because she is the one who lives in Joensuu and I don't see her often. Maybe we will have a cup of tea or something. Anyway, I better get changed from my pajamas and get ready for the day. But before that I took a picture of me as well, all au naturel this morning. I think Jinx is way cuter in the mornings than me (*laugh*).

My Friday didn´t start that great but it sure did end wonderfully as I attended bikram yoga class this evening. I have had something compressing my nerves at lover back entire week and that has radiated pain all over my left leg. I got to the point where I couldn´t sit anymore. But thank goodness for yoga! I am far from feeling like a newborn but the pain has diminished considerably. I am heading for classes tomorrow and Sunday. I hope that will beat ease the problem. I think you should try it too. Although your problem is much more serious than mine since you have a ruptured disk, I really think you should try yoga in a heated room asap. Hopefully that could ease ur pain too.
ReplyDeleteOh, and you look angelic in that picture! :)
