What a Fab Weekend!

Good morning!

Would you rather be in warm Hawaii at 5.30pm Sunday night or in cold Kuopio, Finland at 5.30am Monday morning? That's what I was pondering with my friend Tina this morning at 5.30am. We were doing our make up and watching Obama to give a speech in APEC meeting in Hawaii. We came to the conclusion that we really would love to be in Hawaii. Just to sit under a palm tree with a mojito and the night would be just ahead... But the harsh reality was that it was 3C/34F outside and we had to get going to work. Tina flew back to Helsinki and I hopped on my bike to get myself to downtown to my office.

But this was a fab weekend!! We didn't have to be in Hawaii to have fun. Tina is my childhood friend and she came to visit us for this weekend.
It was nice just to hung out in our pyjamas and get caught up on things. Couple other friends came by too and we all cooked together some burgers and salad on Saturday. It was really awesome to have dinner together. We also met up with more friends later on that night. Everybody was in town this weekend because it was a Father's Day in Finland. Fun, Fun, Fun!
Besides meeting friends, we walked Jinx and watched movies / TV. We also made Christmas cards. That was actually the reason Tina came over. She read my Start of the Season post and decided that she wanted to make snowman xmas cards with me. Tina is bit craft challenged but she did great! Her xmas cards looked awesome.
What else did we do? We called our dads because of the Father's Day. Then Tina dyed my hair because I had some bad roots going on. Now my hair looks pretty again. Thank you darling! But here's few pictures from the weekend...

We made&ate "joulutorttu" which is a Finnish Christmas pastry with plum preserve or marmalade. They are super easy to make from frozen pastry dough that you can buy from the store.

Then you just add the marmelade...

Ready to put the pastries in the oven...

Tina bought this yummy organic German mulled wine. We enjoyed a warm cup of it with the pastries.

Close up on the "joulutorttu" that I dusted with powdered sugar.

We also met up with our other friend Maija. We all grew up in the same little town and went to school together.

Tina and I in the evening.

We had some delicious "friendship" ice creams that had toffee ice cream by Ingman, some whipped cream plus cookie crumbles and pink&purple hearts on top. Yummy!

That's all this weekend!! Thank you Tina for visiting. I will promise to come to Helsinki some time. And for all the other friends, it was awesome to see everyone!! Keep in touch!

  4. We can try. Not sure if I can make this dough from a scratch... it is lot of work because you have to make lots of layers to get it so airy.
