Happy Saturday!
I have a tradition to bake gingerbread cookies every year before Christmas. It is so much fun and I look forward to it each year. I have a good recipe that makes lovely soft cookies. I always put way more spices that the recipe calls for because the scent of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and gloves is just so awesome.
I will be baking gingerbread cookies today with my friend Reetta. I will share the recipe for the cookies later on once I bake cookies because I don't have the recipe with me here at Joensuu. I made the dough already last night at home and just took it with me.
For now I want to share pictures of ginger bread cookies I have baked previous years. Sometimes I make pretty and very decorated cookies. Then I have made few funny ones. Of course I also make just basic gingerbread cookies without any extra, just like my mom used to make them.
If I'm giving cookies as a present, I like to make shapes that somehow relate to the receiver. For example fish cookies for my brother because he fishes a lot. Hearts to my dad since I love him and dog shaped cookies for a friend who loves puppies. You get point. Even if you don't have a special shaped cookie cutter, you can always put the gift receiver's initials on the cookie. That way it feels more personal but it's barely any work for you. Cookies made from a scratch are a great present! They tell the receiver that you care about them. Also, you can give/have too many ties/socks/candles but you can never give/get too many cookies (*wink*).
