Dermalogica Face Mapping and Skin Bar

On my recent trip to Helsinki I also went to my beauty appointment with Dermalogica. They have a cute little day spa called Skin bar in the North side of Helsinki at the address "Mannerheimintie 105". You can easily get there with bus or tram.

I was scheduled for Face Mapping and Skin Bar. The appointment for these services took about 30 minutes all together. I arrived there without any make up since I just took my morning shower but you can also go there with your make up done because it will be washed off when you try the Dermalogica facial cleanser suitable for your skin.

The Skin bar in Helsinki is easy to find.

In Face Mapping Dermalogica's skin specialist will diagnose your skin and find the right products to match the type of skin that you have. Dermalogica has devided the human face into 14 different sections, for example; your nose is section 7 and your chin is section 12. This way different sections can be match with a skin care product that truly matches the condition of the that specific area. 

My skin is in overall good shape. There are areas that are a bit dry on the surface and I have few little spots of rosacea (which is redness of skin, and dilation of superficial blood vessels) but that's about it. I'm glad to know that I don't have too many lines and wrinkles on my face yet and I'm ok without major wrinkle creams right now (*smile*). I guess it pays off to eat good, exercises, not smoke and get enough sleep. Anyway, the skin specialist gave me a form where she wrote down each area of my face and its recommended care and product. It is very simple! I have the form at home, so that I can check my personalized beauty care instructions anytime I want and I don't have to memorize everything.

After Face Mapping the skin spealist will guide you through a facial called Skin Bar. You will actually get to test out the recommended products for you skin by doing the facial yourself. You will be sitting at bar like counter with a mirror and a bowl of water. The skin spealist will give you the right amount of each product and also show you how to apply it to your face.
You will get to test a cleanser, toner, exfoliant, mask, booster/serum, eye area care and any specific product that your skin needs (e.g redness relief, spot treatment climate control etc). The specialist will make sure that you have clean water to wash your face as well your hands between products. You will also have towels to protect your clothes and to dry your hands and face.

It was fun to get to try all the products and to learn how to use them. For example, I didn't know that I really need to rub the Daily microfoliant powder vigorously between my hands with little water to make it foam up. I have been just making it more into a paste and then applying it to my face. Now I know that once I have the microfoliant in a paste form, I need to add little more water and then rub my hands together quickly to make it foamy. Then exfoliate my face with the foam in circular motion.

I was told by the skin specialist to use Dermalogica's Skin smoothing cream to moisturize my skin. Then I can also use their Sheer tint moisture SPF15 because that will give me a little coverage for the reddish spots and it will also protect against sun. I really liked both of these products! They made my skin feel great!

Another one of the products that I was recommended, is Dermalogica's Total eye care SPF 15. It is an alpha hydroxy eye treatment cream and it helps protect the delicate eye area. It reduces the appearance of dark circles and lines around your eyes. When I tried this cream I noticed that it absorbed quickly and it had a great radiance (like those luminizing pens that other company's have) and it counter reacted with the darker areas under my eyes. I really liked this product because it seemed to work well with my skin.

That was my great pampering morning at the Skin bar. Thank you Dermalogica! I learned a lot and I know now what works with my skin at the moment. But I also know that it is good to have Face Mapping done every so often because your skin changes with seasons, let alone with years that go by. The same facial cream might not be the best solution for you month after month. No matter what brand you use.
