HandMade / Scary Cheese Cloth Ghosts

Boo!!

There are only few more weeks till Halloween and our apartment is a scary mess. That is because we have turned our home into a real Halloween headquarters by making more Halloween decorations for this year. Scott has been getting into some pretty badass paper mache things (*more about them later*) and I have been making various other things. So, anywhere you look, you'll see ghosts, skeletons, pumpkins and other creatures that are somewhat finished. It is just easier to leave all the tools out while we wait for the glue/paper mache/paint to dry.

Anyway, today I want to share a tutorial for these fun and affordable cheese cloth ghosts that I have been making. They are really easy to make and you don't have to worry about being very precise because the more mess you make with the cheese cloth, the scarier the ghost will be.

You only need:
-cheese cloth or gauze (in Finland it is harder to find cheese cloth but you can buy gauze,"sideharso",  from any fabric store)

-styrofoam or paper mache balls

-white crepe paper

-glue

-black marker

-scissors

-paper clips

-string

First you will need to decide what size of a ghost you want to make and cut the cheese cloth according to it. My ghosts are approximately 50x50cm / 20"x20".

Then comes the fun part; shredding the cheese cloth to look old and scary. I use scissors to cut little holes and sections. Then I pull and unweave the fabric with my fingers until I get a look that I like. You could also use a stiff brush too.

Next I cut a piece of crepe paper that is little bit smaller than the cheese cloth. I rip of the sides of the crepe paper to get a distressed look.

Once the cheese cloth and crepe paper are ready, put a little bit of glue on a styrofoam or paper mache ball.

Place the ball inside the crepe paper and fold it over to a shape of a ghost. Let it dry for a little while before drawing scary eyes and mouth with a marker. Then cover with the cheese cloth.

Lastly you will need to make a little hook out of a paper clip and push it in the ghost's head for the hanging. I used a little bit of glue to secure the hook to the head. Let it dry.

Almost ready. Just cut a piece of string and hang you ghost somewhere in the house to scare off unwanted guests (*buahhaaahhahhaa*).

I couldn't resist making these scary ghost pictures with my phone's photo app called Pixlr-o-matic. It is such a handy and easy to use app for creating fun pictures.

Have a Spooky day everyone!
