Like I told you earlier, I was in Oulu for few days to attend to my school. It was fun to meet my new class mates, learn things about business management as well as brush up on my computer skills. It was cold in Oulu though. Way too cold. I came to the conclusion that it is a nice place to visit but I couldn't live that up North.
Traveling collage.
The best way to get to Oulu for me is to take a train there. It takes about four hours, and since it is fairly up North (*and middle of nowhere*) you lose internet connection every now and then. As you can imagine it can be a boring ride.
On my way to Oulu on Tuesday I run out of battery on my cell phone (*damn Angry birds*) and I read through two magazines. Since my classmate was sound asleep I had nothing to do. No Internet, no battery for games (*no outlets either*), nothing to read and no one to talk to. Also it was pitch black outside and you couldn't see out the window.
I was feeling fairly anxious and bored for a bit. I tried to close my eyes but I wasn't tired. I realized how addicted one can be to doing things constantly. Modern world is always on the go and doing stuff, and in a situation when you have nothing to do, one can become frustrated.
As soon as I thought it all through, I understood how stupid I was. I was in a quiet train. Nothing but the sound and movement of the train. What a perfect moment just for me to be and enjoy. I closed my eyes and concentrated on my breathing. I was thinking about how I felt and I paid attention to all my senses.
I could feel how my right shoulder was tensed up and right side of leg was over extended. I kept breathing in and out deeply and at the same time imagining how all my knotted muscles were loosening.
After awhile a felt calm and peaceful. It didn't matter that my phone had died or that there wasn't anything exciting going on. I was zen with the moment.
I think this experience was the best training for me for right now. School can teach you a lot but you also need to learn how to live in the moment, sometimes even with nothing to do. School might not be able to do it but a sucky slow train definitely can. I challenge everyone to try this sometime soon (*smile*). It makes you feel wonders.
Even the fruit at home was smiling that I got back home safely.
That was my first school trip to Oulu this year and I have plenty more to come. I will also need to take a train to Jyväskylä for work next week. So, plenty of traveling coming my way yet again.
Since it is also fairly cold in Kuopio right now, I'm thinking about having a stay-indoors-weekend for tomorrow and day after. Sounds like a good plan, right?
