Happy Hump day!
Look what I got to do the other day. My friend was so kind that he paid us all to go indoor bouldering. It was actually his Christmas present to us but because of scheduling difficulties, we weren't able to do it until now.
If you didn't know, bouldering is a form of rock climbing that is performed without the use of ropes or harnesses.
Our friend took us to VOEMA Kuopion kiipeilykeskus that is located close to downtown Kuopio. It was easy to find and they had plenty of parking space. Once you were in you had to sign a document stating that VOEMA isn't reliable to any injuries you sustain while climbing at their place. They also gave a brief introduction to bouldering before you got to go and actually do it.
Then you just went and did it. Different climbing routes were color coded by their difficulty. You had to follow the colored "rocks" and try to make your way up the wall. After you got both hands on the top of the wall, you completed the route. Then you either jumped down (*like Scottie below*) or climbed back down.
I was able to finish couple of the easier routes but that's about it. My hurt back didn't like the climbing at all. It was still fun though! It was so awesome to see other more experienced climbers to climb up the walls like it was nothing. They were like Spidermen making their way up on the wall without much help.
After about an hour us girls were done. Our hands and arms were tired and shaky. We took off our special bouldering shoes (*they were rented*) and took a rest while watching boys climb for a bit longer.
Bouldering is a sport that requires good skills and enough muscles. You also need to keep a leveled head to not freak out when you are at top of the wall. Definitely a sport that you should try too! Two thumbs up!
