Yesterday was a crazy day. I challenged myself to try new things regardless of how much my body was telling me not to do it. I'm really proud that I survived and I'm alive. Let me tell you what I did.
First I went to try a new Les Mills class called Grit Strength. It was insane! Grit Strength is a 30 minute high intensity training with weights and a bench to target all major muscle groups. Class is done with maximum weights and as many reps as you could do for short periods of times. Since the time per exercise was short, so were the breaks. There were only two one minute breaks to rest, plus shorter 30 second and 10 second breaks.
As soon as the trainer announced that this class wasn't for pregnant women because the baby probably wouldn't get enough oxygen, I understood that this was serious business. Within minutes I was sweating like a pig but it was fun! After the class I felt like a champion when the trainer high fived all the participants. I'll definitely go again but next time I won't do a Body Pump class right before Grit... Yeah, that wasn't my brightest idea yesterday (*laughing*) but at least I got a helluva workout.
My second challenge yesterday wasn't really a new thing but it was a bad and strange to me. I'm talking about eating celery and leeks. I absolutely hate them. Just the smell of them both together or alone make me gag (*I'm a wuss*).
What made me want to eat them yesterday then? Well, I found a delicious looking low fat ground beef soup recipe in a magazine and I wanted to try it. To my disappointment the recipe called for celery and leeks. At first I thought to skip them but If I had done that, there wouldn't have been much left to put in the soup. So, I decided to be a big girl and try it out with all the ingredients (*yey me*).
And guess what? It wasn't that bad at all. I can still taste and smell the weird celery/leek aroma but I can tolerate it. The soup is filling and tastes hearty. I'll definitely will make it again.
If you want to make it, just brown up some ground beef, season with smokey paprika powder, add chopped bell pepper, garlic, water, beef bouillon and little bit of tomato paste. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes. Chop up carrots and leeks, and add them to mix. I also added a can of black beans. Simmer for another 10 minutes. Enjoy!
Happy weekend! Be brave and try out new things. You might be surprised.
