Good morning!
Almost last of my pictures from my vacation but these sure are a treat. Since the ski resort where we were staying, is located near to a nature preserve called Pisa we decided to take a day trip there.
Pisa is gorgeous area of land that has many different kinds of scenery. With one hike you can see marsh lands, huge trees, a lake and an enormous hill that will kill your legs but reward you with beautiful landscape. You can choose between shorter hikes that are approximately 1-3km or a longer one that was about 9km.
We chose the longer trail because we had nothing but time and one very energetic dog with us (*giggle*). It took us about three hours to walk the whole trail and it was very worth it. Some parts of the trail were icy and we had to walk slower but it was still fun. We weren't able to see much from the top of the hill because we were surprised by a light snow storm yet the scenery around there was amazing. Especially all the snow covered trees.
Since there weren't a place where you could make a fire, we didn't cook any food. We opted to have just a drink with us and then cooked a proper meal back at the apartment. We should have brought some snacks though because we were starving after climbing up the hill. Well, next time we will be smarter.
Now we can say we have been at Pisa, just not the one in Italy (*wink*).
Beginning of the trail.
Jinx had had enough of picture taking and he was ready to bounce!
Huge pine tree!
We weren't able to hold our hands around it even though we tried.
I didn't even get a good picture of the tree because I would have had to walk too far from it.
Bird tracks on the snow.
"What? More pictures? Noooo!"
Marsh lands and wooden planks to walk over the marsh.
Selfie time!
More animal tracks. Maybe a squirrel?
Not sure what this one is either. Maybe a marten?
These ones belong to Jinx!
Old man's beard growing on a tree.
Lake was trying to freeze over.
Climbing up the hill to a man made cave.
My legs were tired already at this point (*giggle*).
More old man's beard.
This cave was made to get quartz that is in the rock. Since the area is now a nature preserve you are not allowed to mine there any longer. Same goes for the tourist. You can look but you can't take anything home with you, or harm the nature any possible way.
Jinx and Scottie.
Group picture time!
Jinx didn't want to stay put.
I think Jinx just wanted to go climb even higher.
Further on the trail. It was starting to snow.
Scott and a fallen tree.
More pretty trees.
I want to come here summer time too!
How cool is this?
Snow storm colored the air blue. It was so pretty even though we couldn't see far at all.
Almost like a post card.
Happy hiker.
We made it to the top! Kisses!
Another happy hiker.
Which way is Kuopio?
Snow on a birch tree.
Snow on rowan berries.
Old border markings between Sweden and Russia.
Story about the border markings that date back to 1595.
If you think the climb up is hard, the climb down is equally difficult.
More fallen trees.
Back at the apartment. Nothing tasted better than cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows and cookies after the hike.
That was super fun! I can't wait to do it again. I still have few more pictures left. So, see you soon!
