New Year In Berlin

Guten Tag!

And Happy New Year! This time our adventures took us to celebrate new year's eve in Berlin. It was so much fun! We had a great group of nine friends that were able to take few days off from work and travel together to Germany.

We stayed in an affordable MEININGER Hotel Berlin Mitte. We loved the location because it was right in front of a metro entrance and the whole neighborhood was full of restaurants and bars. The reception was open 24h and the hotel offered a decent breakfast.

Since we only had couple days in Berlin we mainly just walked around to see some of the sights as well as all around feel of the city. The weather was brisk and sunny, no snow. This time we didn't do much shopping since we traveled light with cabin luggage only.

Germans are so crazy with their fireworks! Anyone of any age can buy fireworks from any store and also fire them anywhere. We saw some explode on balconies and in the middle of the street in between trams and taxis. There was so much smoke in the air!

We didn't go to the NYE celebration at Brandenburg Gate because it was so crowded and very hard to get to due to so many bridges/metro stations being closed for security reasons. We ended up staying near our hotel.

Here's some pictures from our trip.

Early morning gathering on our way to the airport at 5am.

At the Helsinki airport, ready to take off!

Thank you for the friendly skies AirBerlin.

The sun was just rising when we landed to Berlin.

Empty streets as we strolled down to our hotel.

The view in front of our hotel.

Getting some breakfast or should I say free wifi (*giggle*).

Yummy breakfast at Grand Cafe Cappucino.

Iconic TV tower and one of the many churches in Berlin.

The line to the tower was way too long, so we decided to just admire it from the down below.

Little holiday cheer for one of the cold war watch towers.

Mall of Berlin.

Little snack kiosk.

Rosa and I enjoying the city.

Scott, his mustache and I enjoying the city.

Street signs near Check Point Charlie.

Cute Christmas decorations.

Federal Council of Berlin.

Afternoon happy hour zombies. The drinks, not us.

One of our hotel rooms.

Manly love for Scott's mustache (*giggle*).

Dinner and drinks.

Happy New Year!

Typical German breakfast includes lots of bread, spreads, jams and cold cuts.

On our way to Zalando outlet.

Interesting industrial area.

Rosa getting excited about the Zalando outlet.

I call this style Berlin Hobo chic.

Happy Scott in Berlin.

I'd like to know if this building was a some sort of bunker back in the day.

Warming up with some gluchwine.

Glowing into the new year.

The new year ahead looks nice and bright!

Tatu brough them guns to our NYE party.

Group picture attempt.

Group picture attempt number two.

Getting some dinner at Berlin Mitte Brew Dog.

Katri and I waiting for our pizzas.

Cheers!

Pizza and beer.

Cutie pies Rosa and Toni!

At midnight!

 Fireworks, smoke and people everywhere.

And bars open till 8am (*yikes*).

Staying warm in my faux fur coat.

New year - new breakfast. No matter the year I'm always hungry.

And thirsty!

Before heading back home we stopped at Tommi's Burger Joint for burgers and milkshakes.

 Hmm, what to eat.

Yum.

My wacky outfit on Monday morning when we started our drive back to Kuopio at 6am. We only had few hours to sleep, so I literally rolled out of bed and left.

I hope your NYE was also as splendid as mine. 💓
