I love to bake! Last week I decided to make granola bars from scratch. They turned out pretty good. I followed the recipe I found on my favorite site for recipes which is http://allrecipes.com/recipe/playgroup-granola-bars/detail.aspx.
I didn't have wheat germ, so I used barley germ and I added some maca powder. The barley germ ended up bit hard to chew after baking, so I think I will skip it next time. Then I also melted some dark chocolate and swirled it on top after I had baked them. That was a very good idea! Who wouldn't love chocolate?
I recommend this recipe because it is very easy to make. Any butterfinger can bake these! You only need to mix the ingredients together by hand. You can also easily change it up. I was thinking about adding some dried cranberries next time. And how about some cinnamon and dried apple bits? Sounds yummy to me.
I like to know what I am eating. Store bought granola bars usually have a lot of added crap and ton of salt. So, I used organic flour and organic rolled oats.
These bars also last pretty good when you store them in the fridge and only take out what you are planning to eat the same day. I eat these for snacks at work and also before/after workout.
