Sitting Kills You

Have you ever thought about how much time you spend sitting down every day? Most of us sit all the time. Read on to find out why you should stand up more regurlarly.

I have read couple studies about how bad it is to your health to sit so much. It is very bad. Did you know that sitting increases your risk of death up to 40 percent! I know that we all die at some point but sitting 6+ hours everyday gets you killed faster.  I find it shocking!

I happen to have a bad back due to a ruptured disc and I can't sit very long, so I stand up a lot. And that is actually really good for my health. Also I am very lucky to have a desk at work that raises up. Otherwise I couldn't do my job. I know that not many officeworkers are that fortunate and they are forced to sit down to do their job.
But even if you don't have an awesome desk, you can always get up and strech for few seconds. And you can always turn the tv off at home. So lets make it a goal this week to stop what we are doing and get up. Also, fall is a great time to take a walk in the afternoon and enjoy the fresh air!

I will start my exercise classes today again (I had a little summer break from the classes). I can't wait! I usually do about 1-2 classes every week plus I walk/bike to work and I also walk our dog Jinx.

But what do I do at the exercise classes? A whole lot of different things. This fall I will have classes that concentrate on exercises that strengthen your core muscles, then I will attend to a class that is all about your butt, thighs and abs (that class kills you but it is so good for you!) and I think I will also take a kettle bell class. But more about that later because now I will need to go walk this handsome fellow...

  1. What a coincidence that you wrote about back problems since it has been killing me for a week now. I also have a desk that can be raised all the way up, so maybe I should try that. As a matter of fact I have started to run from work to home and next week I´ll pick up some of my old hobbies; hot yoga and pilates. I hope that practicing those two will ease my back ache.
