Bake My Day / Pretzels

Since I used to live in USA for a while, I got to enjoy some delicious pretzels every now and then. Finland unfortunately doesn't have this savory treat, so I decided to bake them myself. They actually turned out great! Here's the recipe I used. Warning!! You will have a carb over load. So, if you don't want to eat all the pretzels at once, just freeze some of them. That way you will have some left for next time you will get the pretzel graving or you get some suprise guests. Just pop them in the oven for a while and they will be almost like freshly baked.

You will need:
-1 1/4 cups (appx. 3dl) warm water
-1 tablespoon dry yeast
-1/3 cup (0,8 dl) brown sugar packed
-3 3/4 cups (appx. 8dl) flour
-1 teaspoon salt

Mix water, sugar, salt and yeast together. Add flour and mix well.
Knee the dough until it starts to come off from the sides of the bowl and your hands.
Let the dough rise for an hour or when the dough has doubled.

Before you start to make the pretzels, bring to a boil:
-1 quart (1 liter) water
-3 tablespoons baking soda
-3 teaspoons sugar

After the dough has risen, divide the dough into 12 pieces. Shape them into pretzels.

Then drop a pretzel into the boiling water mixture and boil about 15-20 seconds on each side. Place on a cookie sheet (no wax paper). Sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
Bake at 400F (200C) for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown.

Dip in cheese sauce, marinara, mustard or eat by themselves. Or do what I like to do; mix softend butter with cinnamon and some sugar. Then dip pieces of pretzels into the butter and enjoy!

Here's me kneeing the dough.

Here's the risen dough cut into pieces and being shaped into pretzels.

Boiling water/sugar/baking soda mix. I used bbq tongs to pick up the hot pretzels from the water.

Boiled pretzels sprinkled with sea salt.

Baked pretzels. I cooled them on a rack.

Pretzels are ready to be eaten!

ENJOY!!
