Some people might think that it is weird but I really like to send a lot of cards to my friends and family for birthdays, graduation or even just for fun. I think it is nice to get something else in the mail beside bills. I send either cards that I have bought or make them myself. My whole family has always been into making cards. My dad is very good making cards, he has even made cards from birch bark! They are pretty. Then my sisters are super good at making any type of cards. And even my brother. He makes funny cards like my last birthday card. It had my face on a cartoon body that was way bigger than my own body and a saying something about years and weight adding up. He knew I would have a laugh and not get mad.
As I said I sometimes make my own cards. Lately I have been into 3D cards. Last week I made cards for my dad and brother because they went fishing with Scott, and they all said that it was their best fishing trip ever. Doesn't that sound like you want to treasure that memory? A nice 3D card is an awesome reminder about that great fishing trip. So, I picked a good picture of the boys and made it into a 3D card. Here's a little tutorial how to make 3D cards.
Here is what you need: 5-6 copies of your favorite picture copied and printed with a color printer, sharp scissors, double sided tape, 3D cushion foam tape (pre-cut to little squares), construction paper or any thicker paper you like to use for the actual card.
Here's pictures I had copied. I used 5 pictures in one card.
Next I look at the picture and decide what kind of layers I want to do. In this picture I first cut the guys and the fish on the board. Then the next picture I did the guys and just the fish without the board. After that I cut the next picture so that I only cut my brother and Scott (just their shirts and heads, no pants) plus the fish. Last picture I only cut the heads and the fish.
Then I put the 3D cushion stickers on the pictures. These are very handy little double sided stickers that are about 2mm thick.
Then I start to build my 3D picture. I take biggest picture first and I put the smaller ones on top of it. So on, so on.
It should look like this from the side.
After that I just put the whole 3D part on the original picture. I used the cushion foam tape for this one too. After that you just need to decide what type of paper you want to use for the actual card. Since this card was for boys, I kept it simple and used handmade paper (size A4) that I cut in half and then folded it half. I used double sided tape to attach the 3D part to the card. I don't like to use glue because it takes time to dry and lot of times it makes the card curl up.
I also made these cards by using this same technique. I just copied pictures I had taken myself and then created 3D images out of them. Very simple and unique.
I like this picture of Jinx because it makes an awesome card! If he wasn't wearing the shirt, it would be pretty hard to make the card because shirts make really good layering objects in 3D cards.
