Everybody has a story to tell about 9/11 and everybody always remembers what they were doing when the terrible attackts happened. Here's my memories of that day.
It was a normal morning in Indiana, USA. The sun was shining and it was supposed to be a warm day. I was just done feeding the kids breakfast. I was working for some relatives and babysitting their kids during the day. The kids were playing on the floor and I was watching some early morning talk show on TV when the show was interrupted with live footage from NYC. First I didn't realize what had happened. I was actually more upset that I didn't get to watch my show. After a while I started to understand that something big had happened and I called my Finnish friend who was also in town at that time. I was asking if she watching the news. She was, and I think at that point the whole world was. Everybody was clued to the TV and trying to understand why this happened and who did it. Were we under a attack?
In the afternoon I was supposed to go to my other job at the mall. When I got there, I saw my store was closed down like most of the other stores. The mall was like a ghost town. Later on we got the news that our company had actually lost employees at the WTC because we also had a store there.
In the evening when nobody still knew what on earth was going on, we went to fill our car's gas tank just in case. So many other people had the same idea and there was a huge line at the gas station. We also stocked up on nonperishable food like spaghetti, tuna and canned fruit and vegetable. It was scary not to know what would happen next.
Since the attacks were all over the news, my family and friends started calling and e-mailing me from Finland to make sure I was ok. I assured everybody that I was ok and I was far away from New York. After everybody knew that I was ok the next question was if I knew anything more about the attacks because they thought the news in US might have said more than the news in Europe. Unfortunately at that time nobody knew more than the others.
So the days passed and the world learned about the terrible plot that these horrible terrorist had masterminded and executed. There were so many questions to be answered. US started a war and the rest is history. Now it has been already 10 years but the world hasn't forgotten. And that is a good thing. I just can't believe ten years went by so quick because that morning back in 2001 is still vividly in my mind.
