Remember when I told you a story about Jinx and mentioned that I always travel with bikinis in my bag? I'll have them with me no matter where I'm going. Well, I think it is the time to tell why.
It was January 2004. We had traveled from Indiana to Minnesota to spend the New Year with our friends. Since it was winter time with tons of snow, I didn't think to pack my bikinis. We actually went to Minnesota to snowboard and skate, so why on earth would I have needed bikinis.
New Year's eve went fine and we just hung out at our friend's place. The following few days we spent snowboarding, skating and shopping. Then came the night before the morning we were supposed to start driving back home. Our friends insisted going clubbing. I wasn't too keen on the idea of us going out because I wanted make sure that we were up early the next morning. It is a at least a good 5 hour drive from Minnesota to Indiana, plus the forecast had promised a bad snowstorm for the afternoon the next day.
Our friends promised that we wouldn't stay late at all and we would in be in bed before I knew it. That sounded fine to me because I didn't mind to dance a little bit. But I should have known that we were not going to bed anytime soon. One of our friends started to order triple vodka shots right away - basically just a drinking glasses full of vodka (*not good*). Then he decided that he wanted to meet some cheerleaders of the local football team. It was early morning before we were back at our friend's place. Some of us were puking, some not (*wink*).
After few hours of sleep, we ate brunch and started to drive back home around noon. The snow started to fall down and quickly it was full blown snow storm. We were only about a half away of the trip when all of a sudden our friend slammed on the breaks and we barely stopped before the car front of us! There was a huge 40 car pile up and we were really lucky that we didn't collide with anyone. The freeway was jammed and the traffic was at full stop.
First we just kinda waited around to see if the traffic would start moving again. When nothing happened, we went outside and had a snowball fight right at the freeway. We also thought about getting our snowboards out and going to go have few runs by the nearby hill. It was still snowing a ton! We didn't do that though (*smile*).
After a while the traffic started to move again but our friend's dad called us and told us not to drive anymore because there had been another pile up few miles ahead of us. Our friend's dad actually booked us a hotel room near by. We made it to the hotel after stopping at a gas station for drinks and little snacks for the night. Since we were stuck at a hotel and it was snowing like crazy outside, we decided see if there was anything fun to do. We found out that there was a pool and a hot tub at the hotel.
By now you should understand our problem. We had nothing but time and a free use of a pool but we had no bathing suits! I ended up borrowing one of the boys Ballstate University shorts. They were super huge on me! Then I had my bra and a t-shirt. Very cute indeed (*giggle*).
The best part was when we walked up to the hot tub and Scott was going first a bit ahead of the rest of our group. Since Scott didn't have any shorts, he figured that he would just swim in his boxers. So he walked up to the hot tub and dropped his jeans on the floor to be in his boxers.
The funniest thing was that there was a pretty girl sitting at the hot tub and she gave the most weirded out look when she saw Scott dropping his pants and getting in the tub with his boxers. The girl got out the hot tub so quick (*laugh*). Oh well, more room for rest of us.
It ended up being a fun night at the hotel but I swore that I will never travel without my bikinis ever again. You never know what can happen!
Here's few old pics from the trip... Me with the boys taking a break from skiing and snowboarding.
Me with the boys at the bar... We should have been in bed already.
Us stuck at the freeway.
Next morning the storm was gone and we could start driving again. We heard on the radio that Britney Spears had gotten married the first time but the marriage was already been asked to be annulled (*Oops*). Then our friend also called and told that we had a dog waiting for us in the house. Hence the reference to the story about Jinx.
What a crazy New Year! I'm not sure if I will ever have this much of fun on a New Year again but I'm sure I will have my bikinis if I'm going to spend the night anywhere else than my home.
Have a happy Wednesday everyone!
