H&M Is Not Using Real Models For Their Ads and Catalogs

Good Morning!

You need to check out this post if you haven't already heard about it elsewhere. I meant to write a post about this earlier but my time has been consumed with all the fun Christmas things. Better late than never though.

Last Friday I read from the Finnish tabloid Iltalehti that H&M is not using real models on the pictures they have on their website and on their catalogs. The faces of the so called models are real but the bodies are not! H&M confessed to a Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet that the bodies are computer generated.

Here's a picture from the H&M online store.

H&M denies that they are doing this because they are not able to find pretty girls with skinny enough bodies. Their spokesperson stated that they are doing this because they want to be able to represent the clothing the best way possible. All the pictures that are on their online store are made this way. Also, it is not just the women's pictures but men's pictures as well.

I find this disturbing. What will this do to all the young women and men that are not sure about their bodies yet? They will look up to some computer generated fake bodies. Just something that not even the models have anymore. No wonder we have more people with eating disorders and disturbed body images.

I have already grown to love my body and I know what looks good on me and what doesn't but it took few years to realize that. I still remember my awkward teenage years in high school (*laugh*). I will definitely have a talk with my 12 year old niece and I will explain to her that these images that she sees aren't real. I want her to understand that there are many different kind of bodies and they are all pretty in their own unique way.

On a lighter note... What will this do to the models? They will be unemployed soon once H&M realizes that they can make the faces prettier with the computer as well. Plus it is probably way cheaper to have just one face/one body on their computer that they can just modify a bit for each picture than paying for dozen real life models to come to a studio for a photo shoot.

Since H&M is doing this I figured that maybe I should start generating my body as well for the pictures. Here I go! Ha Ha Ha!!

Have a terrific Thursday everyone!!
