Halloween / Paper Mache Bones 2012

Good Day!

Remember when I told you that our apartment has been turned into one big scary mess because it is now our  Halloween headquarters? Well, I was't lying. This is our dining room at the moment. One big mess of cheese cloth, paper mache, paints, scissors, papers, bones, decorations, costumes, markers, news papers, tape, glue and various other necessary items. You could think that it is hard to work like this but we actually find everything fairly easy because we're the ones who created the mess. The only problem comes around dinner time because we have no space to eat at the table. Actually, who am I kidding? We hardly ever eat in the dining room. That is why we have the living room table (*giggle*).

Anyway, my today's post is about all the paper mache things we have made for this Halloween. If you need instructions for the paper mache glue mix, check out my last year's post or even better; check out this website called Juxtapost. They have featured that same Riittalicious post on their website (*cool*). They also have a ton of different ideas to make out of paper mache.

Making the mix and prepping up to make a human head.

To make paper mache skulls we use store bought skulls as molds.

We cover the skull with foil and paper mache over it. Once it dries, we cut the skull out and paper mache over the cutting.

Ready to paper mache!

Adding layers of news paper and glue mix.

Scott is making a pumpkin.

My balloon is finally taking the shape of a (*very round faced*) human.

Evil pumpkin.

It is always more fun when your friends come along to make crafts! Pets are also welcome.

After waiting the paper mache has dried (*usually over night, depending on the size and thickness of the item*), it is time to paint. We used regular acrylic paints that you can get from any craft stores.

First layers of paint.

Then you wait again for the paint to dry before you can finish up with details. Here's Mr. Frankenstein.

Mr. Frankenstein is almost finished. He is just waiting for his bolts and then he is ready to party.

My finished human head. I named him Harry the Hangman because we are making him a body as well and then we will hang him. Not so happy Halloween for poor Harry.

Evil Red Skull is all done.

Cool details on his horns.

Regular white skulls.

Evil Pumpkin painted and done with. I'm not sure why I always end up naming our projects but I do. Silly little habit of mine (*smile*).

Paper mache is such a cool way to create basically anything you can think of. Items made with paper mache look like million bucks yet they cost hardly anything. To make all these we only used a pile of old news papers, water, flour, little bit of glue, tape, any cardboard we could think of and a lot of creativity. For example; Mr. Frankenstein's square head is made out of (*empty*) cereal box and tape. The most expensive thing we purchased for this project was the paints but I even got most of them on 50% sale. Not too shabby!

But don't think you have seen it all yet... Just wait for it... There is one more crazy paper mache character on the works. More about him later... Buahhahhaaaaaa!
