HandMade / Paper Mache Zombie Crawler

Zombielicious Day To All!

As I promised you couple days ago, we have one more awesome paper mache character to introduce to you. We really don't indent to name all the decorations but when you work on them for days, they kinda grow on you and it is easier to call them by their names. Paper mache is really easy to do but it just takes time because you have to wait for different paper/glue/paint layers to dry.

Anyway, I'm proud to announce the monster that Scott has created.  Please welcome; Greg the Crawler!

He looks so creepy and amazing in my opinion. We were thinking about making a grave yard on the front yard and placing Greg there. I think he will scare the neighborhood kids at night, especially because we will put a motion censored light there too!

How did Scott create monster? He used a lot newspaper and paper mache glue mix, as well as painter's tape. Some of the parts like the jaw, he constructed out of card board and the paper mached over it. For the torso he made a mold out of his own chest with my help. We wrapped plastic wrap around him and thne added clear tape to make the mold stiff. After that we cut the mold open from one side, so that we could get Scott out. Then he just paper mached the whole plastic torso part with newspaper.

It is always easier to show in photos how something is made, so I took a ton of pictures from different stages of making Greg the Crawler. I hope they help you to create your own monster. Enjoy!

Paper mached torso and head.

Teeth made out of newspaper and painter's tape.

Backside of the zombie.

Hand.

The whole arm.

Attaching the arms to the torso with paper mache. Scott used a heat gun to speed up the drying time.

Next day; time to melt the "skin". Scott used painter's plastic cover as the skin, and he carefully melted it with a heat gun.

"I think there is a monster under my bed".

Melted plastic looks like decomposed skin.

Time to paint! First layers of furniture stain.

"Since you are a Halloween monster, do you have any treats for me?"

Scott applied several layers of furniture stain as well as put little accent colors with fake blood and markers.

"I'm ready to hunt you".

Nasty rotten teeth are really just tape that is colored with markers, furniture stain and fake blood.

My favorite part of this zombie crawler are his hands. They look so awesome!

I'm coming to get you!

Burnt shoulder and back.

Happy Haaaalllooooooweeen!

P.S. Here's Harry the Hangman counting down his days. He will be hanged on Saturday. Poor Harry!
