5 Days After My Surgery

Hi there!

It is day number five and I'm feeling pretty good. As long as I keep drinking water and taking my pain killers on time, I have no problem. I still have the scabs in my throat and that is good because they protect the new skin that is growing underneath. In order to keep those scabs on as long as possible, I need to keep eating soft foods and drinking water.

By the way, I want to WARN you. There is a picture of my throat and the scabs in the end of the post. If you get grossed out easily, don't scroll all the way down. In my opinion it is not bad though.

My today's breakfast was super yummy and very healthy (*smile*). I treated myself to a strawberry-banana smoothie by mixing together about 6 frozen strawberries, a banana, milk and honey. It was really good!
Strawberries have a lot fiber and vitamin C, and bananas on the other hand are loaded with vitamin A which helps skin to renew as well as vitamin B that is known for improving skin's blood circulation.

As I have told you before, honey is naturally antiseptic, so I have tried to eat as much of it as I can to help my throat to heal. What I didn't know about honey is that it also works as an antibiotic due to its many special compounds. Honey supplies nutrients necessary for healthy tissue regeneration and it stimulates the growth of new blood capillaries. My dear friend Emily pointed this out to me (*thanks babe*). If you want to read more about honey, go here.

Since I haven't been at work, I have had a lot of time to get excited about the fact that spring will be here soon. Days are starting to be longer and there is more natural light coming in to our apartment. I can finally start growing herbs on my window sill. This time I only have chives and they are just sitting in water (*it keeps them better and longer than storing them in a fridge*). Once I'm totally better I will plant a mini herb garden like I did last year. I can't wait!

Don't you just love the lush green color of chives? I was admiring them so much today that I decided to wear a green shirt myself too! By the way, did you know that green is the color for healing. If you don't believe me think about surgeons and nurses. Why else would they always wear green if not for this reason. Maybe my green chives and a shirt are also helping my throat.

Besides just looking pretty, my chives also got the honor to garnish my delicious mashed potatoes last night. I  whipped up a buttery bowl of mash with sour cream and chives. I waited until it was almost cold, so it wouldn't hurt my throat. It tasted wonderful! I don't know why I thought I could eat a big bowl of mashed potatoes after eating just popsicles and yogurt for days. I managed to eat about half of it until my belly said it was way too full. I ended up eating the leftovers for lunch today.

Last and definitely the least for today, let me introduce the scabs that I have in my throat. I almost wrote "my tonsils" but quickly realized that I don't have them anymore. I think my scabs are not that bad compared to some pictures that I have seen online. Anyway... it is not easy to take a picture of your throat (*giggle*).

Tonight I'm planning to keep knitting. I finished the mittens I started the other day (*I'll make a post about them later on*) and now I'm working on a hat for my friend. I'm also thinking about making oven baked apples with lots of cinnamon and honey. I think my belly and throat like the apple idea a lot!

Happy Monday Folks!
