Hello!
I actually had some vacation days left for this year, so Scottie and I decided to take a little trip to Helsinki with my niece Jenna. We haven't been on a trip together since our month long vacation to the USA, so it was nice to spend some time together.
Jenna had to skip school to go with us but it didn't seem to bother her. I wonder why (*giggle*). I'm still pretty sure that she learned something though because we spoke English most of the time, and we went to the Korkeasaari zoo to experience the animals as well as to the Winter garden to see all types of plants. That is pretty much biology and English classes combined, just not held in a typical class room.
Here's our pictures from the trip.
Jenna and I in Onnibus on our way to Helsinki.
Scott and I goofing off in a tram.
Coffee break at Starbucks.
I smell Christmas.
Scott and the huge wooden sloth!
It was nice to be at the zoo on a Monday morning. We were almost the only ones there.
We could get really close to the animals because there weren't huge crowds of people to block us.
Pretty tree that lost its leaves for the winter.
Scott and Jenna ahead of me.
These camels turned their butts on me.
We could see little sparkles of sun that day.
Jenna and I at the tropical house.
Teeny tiny monkey of some sort.
Joys of motherhood. This mommy monkey was just holding her head against the tree while her baby was going nuts on her back.
Walking around of Helsinki.
I just love Christmas.
On Tuesday morning we went to the Winter Garden that is owned by the city of Helsinki. It is free of admission.
200 different kinds of plants under one roof. That is enough of biology for one young girl (*smile*).
Hmmm... agave... tequila...
Huge cactuses.
Group picture time!
Some flowers were still in bloom even though it is fall season.
Gorgeous!
Little water fountain.
And me!
Koi pond.
The whole place was really pretty. The building itself dates back to 1907.
Poinsettia.
While inside of Winter garden you can just get fooled thinking it is also warm outside. Which was not the case. The wind from the sea in Helsinki is super cold!
My cutie pie Jenna.
I'd like to come back here summer time too.
Another group pic.
There is a gorgeous rose garden in front of the Winter garden but only during summer of course.
The founder of the Winter garden.
Gorgeous building.
Happy Friday!
