Hello!
If you didn't know, today is the national Riitta's day in Finland. How cool is that? And no, I'm not making up a day for myself. It is really real. I know all the Finns know this but I don't think very many other people do, so let me explain... Well, let wikipedia explain:
A name day is a tradition in many countries in Europe and Latin America that consists of celebrating the day of the year associated with one's given name.
The custom originated with the Greek Orthodox calendar of saints and Roman Catholic calendar of saints, where believers, named after a particular saint, would celebrate that saint's feast day. In many countries, however, there is no longer any explicit connection to Christianity. It remains more popular in Southern and Eastern (Catholic and Orthodox) than in Northern (predominantly Protestant) Europe.

First of February is the name day for all Riittas. So, it is really not my day only but it is still cool to have a name day. In Finland we celebrate namedays by giving out cards to the name day girl or boy. Some people celebrate having something good to eat and maybe little presents.
My awesomely crafty friend Riitta (my name day buddy) sent me this cute kitty card and a crocheted daisy that she had made. You can attach the flower to a hat or a purse with a safety pin. Very pretty and simple craft idea! I really liked getting this surprise in the mail because usually I just get bills.
Thanks RIITTA! And Happy Name Day! And Happy February First To Everybody Else!!
