Awesome news this morning! Check it out!!
We have known for while that fruit and vegetables rich in red and yellow pigments, guard against cell damage from pollution and UV rays. They can prevent age-related disorders like heart disease and cancer. But now we also know that they can make us look prettier to others. No, we will not all turn into super models but our skin will look more beautiful to others just by eating extra vegetables and fruit.
According to a study done by researchers at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, eating vegetables and fruit may not only improve your overall health, but may actually make you more attractive.
The researchers monitored the fruit and vegetable intake of 35 people over a six-week period and measured skin color changes. In a separate experiment, they investigated how attractive people found the skin color changes associated with the increased intake of fruits and vegetables, according to ABC News.
In these studies the researchers found out that the skin's red and yellow tones increased as more fruits and vegetables were consumed. According to the study, these color changes in your skin are viewed as healthier and more attractive by other people.
How much more of veggies and fruit should we eat then? The study came to the conclusion that eating an average of 2.9 more portions of fruit and vegetables a day made participants look healthier, while an extra 3.3 portions enhanced person's attractiveness to the others.
How awesome is this? I knew that vegetables are good for you and I have heard that eating a lot of carrots can make your skin turn orange but I didn't think that all the other vegetables and fruit with yellow and red hues can affect your skin that way. That's great! This gives me another reason to try to avoid artificial coloring and to stick to naturally colorful fresh food.
As soon as I heard about this last night, I made myself a huge salad with tomatoes, red bell pepper, orange, spinach and different kind of lettuce. And for snack at work today, I will have couple carrots and a red apple.
Have a colorful day everyone!!
Have a colorful day everyone!!
