Visit To The Korkeasaari Zoo

Hello!

I'm starting to sound like a broken record but I don't have much going on. I'm just following the doctor's orders and staying put. My foot is still sore and nothing but time and rest will help. As you may know I'm terrible at doing nothing. In my opinion laying around isn't much fun after an hour because it gets boring. I have read so many magazines and watched countless of movies by now, and it's killing me not to be able to walk or run.

And that brings me to the topic of today's post. Couple weekends ago I was a very bad girl and I took a trip to Helsinki (*oops*). That wouldn't be so terrible but the fact I also spent half a day at the Korkeasaari zoo there is. I didn't walk on my bad foot but I'm sure limping with it wasn't the smartest thing.
But in my defense, just resting is so boring, and I really wanted to see the animals, plus I hadn't been there before. I always wanted to go to Korkeasaari when I was a kid but my parents never took me there. So, since I got a chance to go there now, I wouldn't let my stupid foot stop me.

Korkeasaari zoo is one of the oldest zoos in the world. It was established 1889. It is also an unique zoo due to its location; an island right in front of Helsinki. You can either take a ferry or to walk a long bridge to get there. Korkeasaari is open all year around, and it specializes on endangered big cats. They have had more snow leopard cubs than any other zoo. All that is really cool for a little zoo from Finland, and that is why I wanted to go there so badly.

Anyway, here's few pics from my trip. I hope you like them because I had to hop on one foot to get them. What wouldn't I do for my blog (*giggle*).

On the way to Helsinki in an Onnibus bus.

Yup. We walked the bridge to the island. Not my smartest moment...

Scottie and capital of Finland.

Where to go first?

Animals of Amazon was our first exhibition. It was the closest.

Some sort of reptile.

Pretty flowers.

It was so hot and humid that day. Not just in the Amazon exhibit but also outside.

Tropical fish.

Money tree. I'd need one that really blooms 100 euro bills (*wink*).

Mongoose.

Gorgeous peacock!

More the merrier! We had our friends with us at the zoo. Scott and Sami checking out the map to see where to go next.

Me resting on a bench.

Scott's wings are thiiiiis wide.

Baltic sea.

City of Helsinki in the distance.

Sand sculptures.

Snow leopard.

We got to see the feeding of tigers. It was so cool!

What's for dinner today? A big chunk of meat.

Views from the Korkeasaari viewing tower.

Happy about our trip regardless of the pain. Or maybe because of all the pain killers (*wink*).

Close up on the skyline of Helsinki.

Two big ice breaker ships that keep the Baltic sea open for other ships during winter.

The breeze from the sea felt great.

Happy Scottie.

Cute little cafe.

Stream running through the island.

Lot of people dis Korkeasaari for being small but I think that is part of its charm. It is also really cool that it is on an island, so you also have the aspect of sea being right there. I liked Korkeasaari a lot, and if I lived in Helsinki I'd visit there often. I can just see myself packing up a picnic lunch and a blanket, and going over there to spend a day to see the animals, sea and sights. I'd enjoy a slow stroll around the pretty island and then stopping for a delicious lunch on one of the many rest spots.

That's that for today. Next I'll hop my way to the freezer and get myself an ice cream cone. Stay cool everyone!
