Last night I baked creepy Witches Finger- cookies with my friend Klaara. It was a fun project to do! These cookies will definitely spook people at the party (*evil laugh*).
The dough is very simple to make. It basically is the same dough than for sugar cookies. You just shape them to look like a finger and put a sliced almond for the nail. Creepy!
Klaara said that these are real finger food. Did you get it?? Ha ha ha!

Here's the recipe:
WITCHES FINGERS
-1 cup butter, softened (2,5 dl or 220g)
-1 cup sugar (2,5 dl)
-1 egg
-1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-2 3/4 cups flour (7-8 dl)
-1 teaspoon baking powder
-1 teaspoon salt
-whole sliced almonds
-red food coloring
In a large bowl, beat together butter, sugar, egg and vanilla, then beat in dry ingredients. Cover and refrigerate dough for 30 minutes.
If you want to paint the nails first, use some red food coloring to brush on with a clean artist's brush.
Working with one-quarter of the dough at a time and keeping remaining dough refrigerated, roll heaping teaspoons full of dough into finger shape for each cookie. Press an almond firmly into one end for nail. Squeeze in center to create a knuckle shape and use a paring knife make slashes in several places to form knuckle.
Place cookies on the prepared cookie sheet and bake at 175C/325F for 15-20 minutes or until pale golden. Let cool for three minutes.
Remove from cookie sheet and let cool on a wire rack. Repeat with remaining dough.
Here's me painting the sliced almonds red with food coloring. We figured that the witch wore nail polish...
Close up on the almonds... the food coloring looks like blood actually...
This is the dough...
It was nice that Klaara came to bake with me. It's always more fun with a friend!

And this is how they look like after baking... They puff up a little when you bake them, so it is smart to shape them a bit skinnier when you are making them...WITCHES FINGERS

ReplyDeleteThese cookies might have been too scary because everybody at the party kept asking if they really can eat the nail too. That was so funny!! :D
