Christmas / Animals Of The Fairy Tale Forest

Hi there!

Couple years ago I got an idea for a project called The Animals of the Fairy Tale Forrest (Satumetsän eläimet in Finnish). To make them I bought a whole bunch of different colors of felt, stuffing, yarn and a needle. After that I just cut a somewhat of a shape for an animal I wanted to make. I wasn't that precise or accurate about the proportions because the animals look actually cuter when they are little "off". I made the animals about couple inches high. The mouse was of course a bit smaller than the moose (*giggle*).

Once I had the body for the animal, I cut and stitched the needed eyes, nose, muzzle, teeth, ears etc. I just used simple tack stitch. Then I put together the front and back of the animal. On top of the head I sewed a piece of ribbon, so you can hang the animal on a Christmas tree. Before I closed up the whole thing, I made sure to put some stuffing inside to make the creature more cuddlier. Some of the animals were cold and I gave them a scarf made out of ribbon (*wink*).

Then I just hung them up on my little tree to wait for more animals to be made. It took about couple of hours to make one animal. I just watched tv and made one per night. By Christmas Eve I had the whole tree full of little cute animals. I actually gave them to my family as presents. Everybody loved them!

Here's pictures for you to get ideas to make your own furry bunch.

My projects always start from something I hear, read or see. Then the idea just grows in my head until I just have to make it. I thought of these animals when I saw cute xmas cards that had animals with big round bug eyes.

The whole group of animals from a far away magical fairy tale forest.

Scott and I kept this penguin couple for ourselves. They now have a home in our xmas tree every year. I'm the one with the scarf because I'm always cold and I guess Scott is the other one because he has a big beak (*laugh*).

If you end up making these too, send me a picture of your creatures. I'd love to see them!
I hope you enjoy your Saturday!
