Riittalicious Valentine

Hello!

I love Valentine's day. What would be more awesome than celebrating your friends and loved ones. Especially in Finland it is more a day for friendship actually. I think it is marvelous! I get to thank my friends for being there for me. I can be as sugary sweet I want to be; make cards and hand out candy. I love it! I love it!

Here's how I celebrated Valentine's day this year...

I made cards to give out to my friends and relatives.

Simple felt hearts stitched on decorative paper and then glued on card stock. Super easy yet very sweet!

I also stitched words like "pal" or "love".

My lunch was also very hearty (*giggle, pun intended*). Spinach soup with hard boiled eggs. Check out instructions here how to make your eggs heart shaped too.

Of course I wore red today, it is the color of luuuv.

My brother gave me an awesome Valentine's day present. He engraved these little trinkets himself. If you look closely, you can see my name. I'm going to hang them on my keys etc.

XOXO!! Happy Valentine's Day!!

10 Things That Have Kept Me Busy This Week

Hello!

Besides being busy promoting the competition that I'm in (*outfit of the day, see previous post here and vote for me, please*), my week has gone by quick by doing things like these...

1) Hating the bathroom renovation we are going through. There was water damage in the apartment above us and now we have to have our bathroom fixed too. It sucks! We can't use our bathroom for showers, so we have to use the common showers. Not fun.

2) Bumming a ride from a friend. Since we don't own a car I always catch a ride if any of our friends are headed to a grocery store. That way I can buy things that are heavier like dog food bags, laundry detergent and milk. Usually I'd carry them home.

3) Finding bunny tracks. Jinx loves to track bunnies when we go for our daily walk. He never catches anything but it's fun to watch him do it. Plus it is pretty out in the woods.

4) Stretching a lot. I have been working out most days this week, so I have made sure to stretch too. It makes you feel good (*smile*).

5) Valentine's day card project. I'm almost done with my Valentine's day cards this year. All I have to say is that they are very sweet and pink! I'll make a post about them once they are completely ready.

6) Missing Jinx. We are going to be busy this weekend, so we had to take Jinx to our friend's place. I know she will take very good care of him but I still miss him. It is so weird to be at home without him running around the apartment. Who is going to eat the bread crumbs I drop on the floor? No one.

7) Enjoying the weather. It is finally a bit warmer (*and foggier too*). I was actually able to go running. It is fricking February and it is only around -4C/24F. Usually it is much colder. I'm not complaining at all.

8) Trying out a new recipe. Egg and cheese filled tomatoes. Super simple and yummy!! A good evening snack.

9) Looking cute! Thus taking part to the Iltasanomat outfit of the day competition.

10) Eating healthy breakfast. It is always better to start your day with a nutritious breakfast. My choice this week; strawberries, bananas, cottage cheese, granola and hint of honey.

Happy weekend!!

Be My Valentine 2013

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Since I knew that I would be recuperating from my tonsillectomy on Valentine's Day, I made sure that I had my Valentine's Day cards made and mailed out well in advance.

This year I decided to make ooglegoogle eyed lollipop butterflies. I cut out wings from card stock paper and I used glittery glue to make sparkly accents on to the wings. Then I glued pair of eyes on a lollipop which I stuck through slits that I had cut on the wings. Lastly I wrote my Valentine's Day wishes on the wings. Simple, sweet and super cute! Here's pictures from my Valentine's Day workshop (*Scott loves it when I take over the entire apartment with my crafts, no not really*).

I cut and decorated all the wings at once.

While the glitter glue was drying, I glued all the eyes on the lollipops.

Then I just need to cut two little slits for the lollipop to be inserted through the wings. I also wrote little greetings and sayings on the wings.

Cute little butterfly faces.

Stay Sweet Everyone!!

Waiting For My Tonsillectomy

Hello, hello!

As many of you know, I get sick really easy. If some sneezes on the other side of the world, I'm sick the very next day. It is very frustrating to be sick every other month. That is why I'm going to have my tonsils removed next week. I'm very excited about it regardless of the pain after the surgery.

I know people who are against this type surgery but I haven't found anything good about my tonsils. Everytime when I get sick it is my throat that start hurting first. Then it goes to my sinuses. I also get nasty tonsilloliths (*also known as tonsil stones*).

Talking about getting sick... I think someone has winked on the other side of the world because I have an eye infection at the moment (*get it?*). I can't wear makeup since I have to put these oily eye drops to my eyes every 4 hours. I can't believe how I'm always sick somehow (*sigh*). I just hope I'm alright next week, so I can have my surgery. If I'm sick at all, they won't operate.

In case my eye gets any more infected, I bought myself extra eyes. A whole boxful to be exact! I can also choose what size of eyes I want to wear. I have ittybitty eyes along with extra large ooglegoogle eyes.

I'm just kidding! I'm using the eyes to make Valentine's Day cards for my friends. I'll post pictures of them later on. But I'm not kidding about the eye infection (*I wish I was*). Anyway, keep your fingers crossed that I'm ok next week and that the surgery goes well.

Bye for now!

Roughly Romantic Friends Night With Hockey

Hello, Hello!

As I told you yesterday, I invited few friends over to get together on Valentine's Day and watch the KalPa - Kärpät game. That was fun! Nothing fancy, just hanging out, talking, nibbling on little treats and yelling at the TV when KalPa wasn't doing good. I snapped couple pictures before my friends came over. I didn't want to bother anybody with pictures during the game.

Appropriate attire...

Jinx was there too, of course!

Jinx didn't want to take pictures because he was drooling over our treats for the night...

Trying to pose but the beast kept moving around...

All the Finns know these... Kisses! And not the Hershey's chocolate kisses but Brunberg's Kisses from Finland. I bought a huge box of them because Valentine's Day just calls for all types of kisses. Plus they were on sale.

Yummy Vanilla Kiss!

 More chocolate!

I didn't want the night to be too sweet, so I made a cheese platter as well.

Friends and treats were great but the game itself sucked! KalPa lost 2-3 to Kärpät.

Sometimes KalPa plays like crap. They don't get anything done on the first and second period but then on the third period they realize that the game is almost over and they start really playing the game.

So, the same crap happened last night. Kärpät scored 3 goals before KalPa decided to do something in the end of the third period. On a positive note, it was good to see the new Canadian defender Ryan Glenn to play pretty good. He assisted KalPa's last goal. He was also getting puck when Kärpät tried to score on KalPa's empty net while KalPa had taken their goalie out to get a sixth player on ice. By the way... more pictures of the game can be found on KalPa's official web page.

Valentine's Day Present

Hi again!

Since I got so many wonderful yarns from Novita, I have been trying to come up with different projects that I can do with them. For Valentine's Day I came up with this; Ecological dishrags for friends.

I know this doesn't sound so happy, bubbly and heartfilled thing for Valentine's Day but it really is. I knitted couple dish rags by using Novita's 50% recycled cotton yarn called Hanko. It is a perfect yarn for dish rags because it withstands regular wash in a washer. Therefore the rag can be used for a long time, making it very eco-friendly! And when I pair the rags with a card that has a cute saying, I don't know anyone who wouldn't want them (*smile*).

Here's little Valentine's Day card sayings (both in Finnish and in English) that I came up with for these dish rags:
-Hyvä ystävä on kuin tiskirätti, ilman sitä elämässä ei pyyhkisi yhtä hyvin.
-Good friend is like a dish rag, without one life wouldn't be so neat.

They are cute, right?
